Once on the ground, it was clear that there was a car-sized hole in the fuselage. Australian-based Qantas ordered oxygen tanks on all of its Boeing 747-400s to be immediately inspected. The U-S Federal Aviation Administration had previously warned airlines to inspect oxygen cylinders on their planes. But a Qantas official says the oxygen system on the troubled aircraft appears to be different from the type that led to the F-A-A warning.DAVID COX, QANTAS HEAD OF ENGINEERING: “BOEING ADVISES THAT NO THEY HAVE NOT HAD ONE OF THEIR AIRCRAFT WITH AN OXYGEN TANK DISINTEGRATING. HOWEVER, WE DON’T KNOW THAT WAS THE ROOT CAUSE, SO THAT IS WHY WE ARE NOT GOING TO SPECULATE.
