Why do airline safety videos say "Always adjust your own oxygen mask/life vest before helping others"?

It seems that you would want to help others first, such as you child. If you die in an aviation accident, but you saved your child’s life, wouldn’t that be the best thing? rather than your child dying and you surviving?

Because you can pass out in seconds from lack of oxygen. Even if your child, or whoever you are with, passes out they are still alive and breathing, and will still breathe the o2 even if you put it on them soon after the person passes out.

Anybody remember the band that had an album cover with a girl wearing an oxygen mask?

…to the oxygen tank? Their trunks are sort of like a tube anyway, so I feel like coming up with a mask designed to fit an elephant’s face would be rather unnecessary.

Considering that an oxygen tank has PRESSURIZED gas, I highly doubt directly ‘attaching’ to the tank would be a wise idea unless the elephant can actually take such unregulated pressure.

i am in the hospital right now and one of my friend who was a girl she came to see me she asked me if i could talk she also asked me if she could try the oxygen mask on will the nurses scold her and me i need help for this question.
Only girls answer this she still wants to try on the mask should i let her do it you girls decide.

Yes you can. And don’t let your friend try it. In hospitals there are rules and/or guidelines for a reason. It is always best to let the staff, nurses, therapists techs etc. be your guide. Rules have developed over the years for the best protection of the patient and staff in a very difficult situation.Hospitals, by their very nature, are hotbeds of infection.If everyone follows the rules the chances of nosocomial, hospital acquired, infection is reduced.

I am sick and the doctor ask me to go to the hospital the nurse said that i have to be put on oxygen mask but i am scared of wearing it as i never wore it before.

I’m not sure what your question is but I will try to write something about oxygen masks in general:

The main reason for putting a patient on a mask is a low "sat" (Oxygen saturation of the blood), that is the patient is not getting enough oxygen. There’s also a couple of different sort of "masks", in non-trauma patients the nasal cannula is by far the most common (at least here). In trauma patients the full mask is often used with a high flow of oxygen (up to 15 liters per minute)

As for the wearing I can’t say too much as I have only ever tried them for a short while (couple of hours during a training exercise). I wouldn’t say it’s uncomfortable but it may be a bit irritating. If you are scared talk to the nurse, they are used to dealing with that kind of stuff.
